In order to minimise the impact of its activities on the natural environment, Grande Dixence S.A. has made certain undertakings. These are set out in its environmental policy, which is based on the principle of sustainable development.

Environmental policy

Grande Dixence S.A. is the owner of a hydroelectric complex situated in the Valaisian Alps which produces electricity from a renewable source.

Grande Dixence S.A is aware of the value of the environment and is maintaining and improving its means of production in order to optimise the use of natural resources.

To that end, it undertakes to:

• comply with statutory requirements and the provisions of licences and permits;
• ensure that operations are carried out in such a way as to avoid any pollution and to restrict, as far as possible, the impact on watercourses and their ecosystems (sluicing, etc.);
• minimise the impact on the landscape when construction work is carried out;
• exert its influence as a shareholder on the conduct and environmental efficiency of companies in which it holds shares;
• maintain a constructive dialogue with its partners, the public, and the groups affected by the installations;
• give preference to working with service providers and suppliers who are environmentally aware;
• promote the environmental qualities of hydroelectric energy;
• improve its environmental performance continuously, using action programmes.

Grande Dixence S.A. is responsible for ensuring that this environmental policy is implemented.

Grande Dixence S.A. will ensure that it has the necessary means to protect the environment within the context of its activities.
