Depending on energy requirements, the water stored behind the Grande Dixence dam is conveyed to the four power stations below it. These are the Fionnay, Nendaz and Bieudron underground power stations and the Chandoline power station, which is owned by Alpiq. Together, they represent a total capacity of 2000 MW and produce more than 2 billion kWh per year. After passing through the turbines, the water is returned to the Rhône.
