THE IBEX TRAIL (Sentier des Bouquetins)

The path known as the Ibex Trail was created by Grande Dixence S.A. and EOS, in conjunction with Pro Natura Valais. This wildlife walk enables visitors to discover the animal and plant life of the Val des Dix, upstream of the Grande Dixence dam.

Follow the instructions given in the leaflet about the walk:

  • Go to the upper station of the Le Chargeur cable car system.
  • Cross the Combe de Prafleuri, going across the scree, which is the result of the gradual erosion of Mont Blava.
  • Walk up as far as the Cabane de Prafleuri, where you will be able to quench your thirst.
  • Then start climbing the steep slope which leads to the Col des Roux and stop to admire the cirque of jagged mountains all around you.
  • After this stop, start descending the alpine pastures with their gentians and butterflies, until you reach the Cabane des Ecoulaies and the Cabane de la Barmaz.

Remember:

  • Bring clothing and equipment suitable for the high mountains.
  • Keep to the waymarked paths to protect the natural environment.
  • Don’t pick protected species of plants and flowers.
  • Don’t disturb the animals.
  • Don’t leave litter, take your rubbish away with you.
