In order to produce energy which is as environmentally-friendly as possible, Grande Dixence S.A. established a system of environmental management which was awarded
ISO 14001 certification in July 2001, certification which was renewed in 2006. The electricity produced by Grande Dixence also gained
TÜV EE02 renewable energy certification in April 2000 and
naturemade basic certification in January 2002.

An enterprise management standard produced in 1996 by the International Standards Organisation (ISO).
The standard is concerned with establishing and maintaining an environmental management system. It is applicable to all types of organisations, particularly to companies. Its overall objective is to balance environmental protection and socio-economic requirements. It is based on three principles:
- compliance with regulatory requirements;
- prevention of pollution;
- continuous improvement.

TÜV EE02

This quality certification is awarded by TÜV Management Service GmbH and certifies that:
- the hydroelectric energy offered is from a renewable source and its origin is clearly identified;
- the generating company can ensure, by means of adequate production, coverage of “green” contracts (contracts for energy sold as “certified renewable” and subject to verification by the certifying body);
- the generating company has a policy for environmental protection and rational use of energy.

naturemade basic

This certification is awarded by the Vereinigung für umweltfreundliche Elektrizität (association for environmentally-friendly electricity). The Zurich-based VUE is sponsored by associations of energy producers, consumers, environmentalists and water resources management bodies.
The label offers two more guarantees besides those provided by the TÜV label:
- The company generating electricity from a renewable source has an environmental management system.
- The supplier is committed to promoting new sources of renewable energy.
