STAFEL PUMPING STATION (altitude 2180 m)

Built at the base of the Matterhorn, the Stafel pumping station pumps some 100 million cubic metres of water annually. Its water supply comes from the Z’Mutt, Mischabel, Findelen, Upper Theodul and Furgg glaciers. The station pumps the water 250 metres upwards to the level of the collection conduit. The installation also has two large sand traps and a balancing reservoir.
