STORAGE

The water collected via the network of conduits is stored behind the Grande Dixence dam.

Grande Dixence has a capacity of 400 million cubic metres. Its wall is 285 metres high, making it the tallest gravity dam in the world. This structure was made from 6 million cubic metres of concrete and weighs some 15 million tonnes. It is 200 metres wide at its base and 15 metres wide at its crest, which is 700 metres long. Within the dam wall, 32 kilometres of tunnels and inspection shafts enable safety inspectors to monitor the structure continually.
