Over 400 Attendees at Grande Dixence’s First Information Evening
On 4 September, Grande Dixence hosted its inaugural information evening in Zermatt to present the Gornerli project. This event marked the beginning of a new series of public meetings aimed at fostering dialogue with the local community. The objective is clear: to share transparent, first-hand information and offer residents the opportunity to ask questions and voice concerns about the construction project.
The turnout was remarkable, with more than 400 participants in attendance. This strong interest reinforces our commitment to engaging openly with the population.
During the evening, Grande Dixence provided insights into several key aspects of the project:
- The company’s current role in Zermatt
- The scope and framework of the Gornerli project
- Natural risks associated with the Gorner Glacier area
- The dam’s contribution to flood protection
- Water supply infrastructure
- Electricity supply in Zermatt
Grande Dixence is committed to continuing this dialogue and will be organizing additional information evenings in the future.

Gornerli support group is committed to realising the project rapidly.
The Swiss Federal Government, the Canton of Valais, Grande Dixence SA and representatives of the concession communes have founded the Gornerli support group in the presence of Federal Councillor Albert Rösti. At the first support group meeting, all participants confirmed their willingness to coordinate further procedural steps and milestones and to work closely together. This means this multi-purpose storage project, which has many valuable aspects, will be realised in a targeted manner.
